1988-D Washington Quarter BU
In 1988, the Denver Mint produced a striking version of the United States twenty-five cent piece, now preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition. This coin features a distinctive composition consisting of an outer layer of copper and nickel fused to a solid inner core of pure copper, a standard for modern circulating coinage that gives the edge its characteristic dual-toned look. The front of the coin displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, a design created by John Flanagan. Positioned around the first president's portrait are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1988". The Denver origin is marked by the small "D" mintmark on the right side. On the reverse side, a powerful heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle, the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is clearly visible, while the outer rim is inscribed with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination, "QUARTER DOLLAR".
