1992-S Washington Quarter Gem Proof
Created to mark two centuries since the birth of George Washington, this classic design originally debuted in 1932, replacing the Standing Liberty quarter on August 1 of that year. While the early versions of this denomination were minted in silver, the composition shifted following the Coinage Act of 1965. This 1992-S edition features the modern cupronickel clad copper composition, struck with the high-quality finish characteristic of the San Francisco Mint. The obverse of the coin displays the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, accompanied by the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the 1992 date, alongside the prominent S mint mark. On the reverse, an eagle spreads its wings, surrounded by the traditional legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. This Gem Proof coin showcases sharp details and reflective fields, offering a beautiful look at a long-running American design.
