The 1996 Washington quarter, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, represents a classic era of American pocket change. This copper-nickel clad coin features the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington on the obverse, a design originally introduced in 1932 to mark the bicentennial of the first president's birth. Over the decades, this enduring image has become one of the most recognized portraits in numismatic history, anchoring a series that stands as the second-longest running in the United States, surpassed only by the Lincoln cent. On the obverse, the portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the "P" mint mark and the 1996 date. The reverse displays a majestic heraldic eagle with outspread wings, perched above olive branches. Surrounding the eagle are the traditional inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR".
