2019-P ATB Quarter War in the Pacific BU
In 2019, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking quarter dollar that honors the bravery of Allied forces in the Pacific Theater. This coin, part of the America the Beautiful series, is struck in a copper-nickel clad composition over a pure copper core. The obverse features the classic, recognizable profile of George Washington, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust. The reverse of the coin features an evocative scene designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. It depicts American military forces making their landing at Asan Bay, a pivotal moment in the liberation of Guam from occupation during the Second World War. This design pays tribute to the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, which was established in 1978 to preserve and honor the memory of those who served in the Pacific campaign. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the name of the park, "WAR IN THE PACIFIC," along with "GUAM," the year "2019," and the United States motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The "P" mint mark signifies its origin from the historic minting facility in Philadelphia.
