In 2019, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking quarter dollar that honors the bravery of Allied forces in the Pacific Theater. This coin, part of the America the Beautiful series, is struck in a copper-nickel clad composition over a pure copper core. The obverse features the classic, recognizable profile of George Washington, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust. The reverse of the coin features an evocative scene designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. It depicts American military forces making their landing at Asan Bay, a pivotal moment in the liberation of Guam from occupation during the Second World War.
