1809-1837 Capped Bust Dime Culls

0.0715 troy oz .8924 Cull

In the early decades of the United States, the young nation's coinage underwent a fascinating artistic evolution. Among these early treasures is the silver dime minted from 1809 to 1837, a period that represents the formative years of American federal coinage. Struck in 89.24 percent pure silver, each of these ten-cent pieces contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, serving as a tangible link to the commerce of the early nineteenth century. The design of this dime, created by John Reich, showcases a distinct era of American engraving. The front of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, recognizable by the soft Phrygian cap resting on her curls. Thirteen stars surround her image, representing the original colonies, with the word LIBERTY inscribed upon her hair band. Below the bust, the year of mintage is clearly displayed. On the reverse side, a detailed heraldic eagle is depicted holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. A shield is placed across the eagle's chest, while the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed above. The surrounding text reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the denomination indicated at the bottom as 10C.
