1827 Capped Bust Dime AG

0.0775 troy oz .8924 1827 Almost Good

This United States ten-cent piece from 1827 offers a fascinating glimpse into early American coinage. Struck in 0.8924 fine silver, the coin contains 0.0775 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the Capped Bust design era, a period characterized by distinct patriotic imagery and hand-crafted aesthetic appeal. The front of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Liberty, recognizable by her soft Phrygian cap with tresses of hair cascading down her back. Encircling this central figure are thirteen stars, which pay tribute to the original colonies that formed the nation. The date 1827 is clearly visible at the bottom of the design, beneath the bust. On the reverse, an American eagle stands proud with a shield draped across its chest. In its talons, the eagle clutches both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. Designed by John Reich, this silver dime is a remarkable survivor from the early decades of the Philadelphia Mint.
