This silver ten-cent piece from 1828 represents a fascinating era of early United States coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin belongs to the Capped Bust series and is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its heavily circulated, Almost Good condition, the historical character of this nearly two-century-old coin remains unmistakable. The obverse of the coin displays Liberty facing left, draped and wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Thirteen stars encircle this central figure, representing the original colonies, with the year 1828 positioned at the bottom. This specific variety is distinguished by its small date and a flat, square base on the number 2. On the reverse, an American eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The denomination is indicated by the inscription "10 C." at the bottom of the design, a classic feature of these early federal dimes.
