1842-O Liberty Seated Dime AG

0.0715 troy oz .900 1842 Almost Good

This silver ten-cent piece, struck in 1842 at the New Orleans Mint, offers a glimpse into the early decades of United States coinage. Despite its heavily circulated state, which places it in Almost Good condition, the coin retains the essential elements of its classic mid-nineteenth-century design. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse side displays the seated figure of Liberty. In her right hand, she supports a shield, while her left hand holds a staff topped with a liberty cap. On the reverse, a simple wreath encircles the face value of the dime, a standard motif for the era's fractional silver currency.
