1843 Liberty Seated Dollar Fine

0.7734 troy oz .900 1843 Fine

The 1843 Liberty Seated silver dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900. Its survival in Fine condition allows us to appreciate the artistry of a bygone era, capturing the details of a design that circulated heavily during the mid nineteenth century. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty seated on a rock. In her hands, she holds a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests on a shield adorned with the word LIBERTY. The reverse displays a powerful eagle perched on a branch, grasping three arrows in its talons, with a shield positioned across its chest. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOL.
