In 1843, the United States Mint in Philadelphia produced a silver fifty-cent piece that showcases one of the most enduring motifs in American numismatics. This half dollar, struck in 0.900 fine silver, carries a total silver content of 0.3599 troy ounces (with a gross weight containing 0.3866 ounces of silver). The coin represents a fascinating era of mid-nineteenth-century American coinage, surviving to the modern day in Good condition. The obverse of the coin displays Liberty in a seated position. In her hands, she holds a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests on a shield. This classic imagery is anchored by the bold date 1843 stamped below the figure.
