1843-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar VF
Struck in 0.3866 troy ounces of fine silver, this 1843 half dollar represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Minted in New Orleans, as indicated by the O mint mark, this fifty-cent piece features the iconic Liberty Seated motif. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and survives in Very Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated during the mid nineteenth century. The obverse, designed by Christian Gobrecht, presents a seated figure of Liberty. She holds a pole topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests upon a shield. The reverse displays a detailed eagle perched on a branch, grasping three arrows in its talons, with a shield emblazoned across its chest. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the year 1843 on the obverse, and STATES, OF, HALF, and DOL. on the reverse.
