In 1846, the branch mint in New Orleans struck a limited run of silver dollars featuring the classic Liberty Seated design. With a original mintage of just 59,000 pieces, finding one of these southern-minted dollars today is a notable event for numismatic enthusiasts, especially in high-grade circulated condition. This particular coin has been certified as About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58), indicating that it retains much of its original luster and detail with only the slightest traces of wear on the highest points of the design. Struck from 90 percent silver, it contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse displays the figure of Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap, while a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY rests by her side. The year 1846 is struck below the image. On the reverse, the coin features an eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by the legend STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOL. The distinctive 'O' mint mark is placed below the eagle, identifying its origin at the historic New Orleans facility.
