The 1847 Liberty Seated half dime represents a fascinating era in United States coinage, minted from 90 percent silver with a total silver weight of 0.0387 troy ounces. This particular specimen is preserved in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the finer points of its mid nineteenth century craftsmanship, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. On the obverse, the design showcases Lady Liberty in a seated position. In her hands, she supports a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below this central figure, the year 1847 is clearly visible. The reverse of the coin features a delicate wreath that encircles the face value of the coin, which is written as HALF DIME. Surrounding this central wreath is the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, completing a classic design created by Christian Gobrecht.
