1849 Liberty Seated Half Dime AU
The 1849 silver half dime offers a fascinating window into early United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this tiny treasure contains 0.0387 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, it retains much of the original detail and luster from the year it left the Philadelphia Mint. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse of the coin displays a seated figure of Liberty. She holds a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below this detailed scene, the date 1849 is clearly visible. The reverse of the coin is framed by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. At the center, a delicate wreath wraps around the denomination, which is written as HALF DIME. This classic combination of allegorical imagery and simple wreath design makes the mid-nineteenth-century half dime a captivating piece of early American minting history.
