1849-O Liberty Seated Dime XF

0.0715 troy oz .900 1849 Extra Fine

In 1849, the United States Mint in New Orleans produced a ten-cent silver coin that captures the artistic spirit of pre-Civil War America. Struck in 90 percent silver with an actual silver weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, this dime belongs to the celebrated Liberty Seated series, a design created by Christian Gobrecht. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of a design that circulated widely during a transformative era in American history. The obverse of the coin presents a classic allegorical depiction of Liberty. She is shown seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below this central figure, the year 1849 is clearly struck. The reverse design simplifies the presentation to focus on the coin's utility, featuring the words ONE DIME encircled by a delicate wreath, with the surrounding inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA confirming its status as official United States currency.
