1849-O Liberty Seated Half Dime VF

0.0387 troy oz .900 1849 Very Fine

The 1849-O Liberty Seated half dime represents a fascinating era in United States coinage, minted at the historic New Orleans facility. Struck in 90% fine silver, this small five-cent piece contains 0.0387 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its diminutive size, the coin showcases an incredibly detailed work of art by Christian Gobrecht, surviving today in Very Fine condition. The obverse features a graceful depiction of Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In her right hand, she supports a shield adorned with the word LIBERTY, while her left hand holds a pole topped by a liberty cap. The reverse is framed by a delicate wreath that encircles the central denomination, which reads HALF DIME. Surrounding the wreath are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, marking this coin as a classic example of mid-nineteenth-century American money.
