1851 Liberty Seated Half Dime VF

In 1851, the United States Mint produced a tiny silver treasure containing just 0.0387 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. This five cent denomination, known as the half dime, showcases the artistry of Christian Gobrecht. Despite its small size, the coin carries a remarkably detailed design that has survived more than a century and a half in Very Fine condition. The front of the coin displays a seated figure of Liberty. She holds a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. On the reverse, a delicate wreath circles the central denomination, which reads HALF DIME. This elegant combination of symbols is framed by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, creating a classic nineteenth century aesthetic that invites close inspection.
