0.0715 troy oz .900 1853 Very Fine

In 1853, the United States Mint released a distinctive variation of its ten-cent piece. This silver dime, composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, stands out in the Liberty Seated series due to the addition of arrows flanking the date on the obverse. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing a pleasing level of detail from a pivotal era in American coinage. The obverse design, created by Christian Gobrecht, features Lady Liberty seated on a rock. In her left hand, she supports a pole topped with a liberty cap, while her right hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The year 1853 is clearly struck at the bottom, framed by the tiny arrowheads that make this year's issue so recognizable. On the reverse, the coin displays a simple yet elegant wreath that encircles the face value of ONE DIME. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surround this central wreath, completing a design backed by the authority of the United States government.
