This 1854 silver dime, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, represents a fascinating chapter in mid nineteenth century American coinage. Crafted from 0.900 fine silver, this ten cent piece contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was produced at the main Philadelphia facility, it does not bear a mint mark, distinguishing it from branch mint issues of the same era. The obverse of the coin showcases a seated figure of Liberty, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests upon a shield.
