In 1854, the New Orleans Mint produced a significant run of half dollars featuring the iconic Liberty Seated motif. This silver coin, struck with a purity of 90 percent, represents a fascinating era of American coinage. The obverse presents a seated figure of Liberty, who holds a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while resting her other hand on a shield. To signify a change in the coin's weight during this era, distinctive arrows were placed on either side of the 1854 date.
