1854-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar w/Arrows AG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1854 Almost Good

In 1854, the New Orleans Mint produced a distinctive variation of the Liberty Seated half dollar, easily identified by the prominent arrows flanking the date on the obverse. This design element frames the year 1854 beneath the central figure of Liberty, who sits holding a staff topped with a liberty cap, her other hand resting upon a shield. This silver coin, struck with a purity of 90 percent, contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse of the coin displays a classic American eagle clutching three arrows and an olive branch in its talons, with a shield draped across its chest. Struck during the pre-1933 era of United States coinage, this piece carries the 'O' mintmark, signifying its origin from the historic coin press in Louisiana. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the essential imagery of Christian Gobrecht's design remains recognizable, offering a tangible connection to mid-nineteenth-century American commerce.
