1855-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar w/Arrows AU

In 1855, the New Orleans Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that remains a captivating example of mid nineteenth century American coinage. This fifty cent piece, struck in 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.3868 troy ounces, belongs to the Liberty Seated series. A defining visual feature of this specific issue is the pair of arrows placed on either side of the 1855 date, a detail that immediately draws the eye and distinguishes it from other years in the broader series. The obverse features a graceful depiction of Liberty seated, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests upon a shield. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed across the shield. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted perched on a branch, grasping three arrows in its talons, with a shield positioned over its chest. The reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOL., accompanied by the 'O' mint mark of the historic New Orleans Mint. This particular coin survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details of Christian Gobrecht's classic design.
