0.3866 troy oz .900 1855 Very Good

In 1855, the New Orleans Mint produced a silver half dollar that stands as a fascinating representative of mid-nineteenth-century American coinage. This fifty-cent piece features the classic Liberty Seated design on its obverse, depicting Liberty resting on a rock while holding a staff topped with a liberty cap. Her other hand rests upon a shield. Distinctive arrows flank the 1855 date at the bottom of the coin, marking a specific design variant within the series. The reverse of the coin displays an eagle perched upon a branch, clutching three arrows in its talons, with a shield emblazoned across its chest. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOL." encircle this avian design. Struck in 90% fine silver, this coin carries the "O" mint mark, indicating its origin from the historic Louisiana minting facility. Having survived over a century and a half, this specimen is preserved in Very Good condition, offering a tangible connection to the pre-Civil War era of American money.
