In 1855, the New Orleans Mint struck this 90 percent silver half dollar, a piece that showcases the artistry of Christian Gobrecht. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole topped with a liberty cap in one hand while resting her other hand on a shield. Flanking the 1855 date are distinct arrows, a design element specific to this era of the Liberty Seated series.
