1855-O Liberty Seated Half w/Arrows XF

0.3868 troy oz .900 1855 Extra Fine

In 1855, the New Orleans Mint struck this 90 percent silver half dollar, a piece that showcases the artistry of Christian Gobrecht. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole topped with a liberty cap in one hand while resting her other hand on a shield. Flanking the 1855 date are distinct arrows, a design element specific to this era of the Liberty Seated series. The reverse side presents a powerful eagle perched upon a branch, clutching three arrows in its talons. A shield is positioned across the eagle's chest, surrounded by the inscriptions representing the nation and the coin's face value. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the intricate details of both Gobrecht's engraving and the historic 'O' mint mark of the Louisiana facility.
