In the mid nineteenth century, the United States Mint produced a tiny silver treasure that carried immense daily utility. This 1856 half dime, struck in 90 percent pure silver, represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Despite its diminutive size, containing just 0.0359 troy ounces of silver, the coin showcases an incredibly detailed and elegant design that has captured the imagination of observers for generations.
