The 1857 Liberty Seated dime represents a fascinating era in United States coinage. Struck in 90% fine silver, this ten-cent piece contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its mid-nineteenth-century artistry. On the obverse side, the coin displays Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In her hands, she holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The base of the design features the year 1857. The reverse of the coin is framed by a delicate wreath that wraps around the central inscription declaring the face value as ONE DIME. Surrounding this central wreath are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, completing a classic design created by Christian Gobrecht.
