1858 Liberty Seated Half Dime VF

In 1858, the United States Mint in Philadelphia produced a tiny silver treasure: the Liberty Seated half dime. Struck in 90% fine silver with a weight containing 0.0358 troy ounces of precious metal, this five-cent denomination represents a fascinating era of American coinage. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the finer details of its mid-nineteenth-century artistry. The obverse of the coin showcases a graceful depiction of Liberty seated upon a rock. In her hands, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield, symbolizing preparedness and freedom. The year 1858 is anchored firmly at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, the coin features the words HALF DIME enclosed within a detailed wreath. Surrounding this central wreath is the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
