Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1858, this silver half dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Crafted from 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. The design, created by Christian Gobrecht, showcases Liberty seated on a rock on the obverse. She holds a pole topped with a liberty cap in one hand, while her other hand rests on a shield. On this specific specimen, graded in Fine condition, the central inscription of "LIBERTY" on the shield shows wear, with the letters "B" and "E" appearing weak, though traces of them remain visible under magnification. The reverse of the coin features a heraldic eagle perched upon a branch, clutching three arrows in its talons. A shield is positioned over the eagle's chest, mirroring the theme of national defense and liberty. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "HALF DOL." at the bottom.
