1858 Liberty Seated Quarter AU
In 1858, the United States Mint produced a silver quarter dollar featuring one of the most enduring motifs in American numismatic history. This coin, struck in 90 percent silver, represents the Liberty Seated design series. The coin contains 0.17875 ounces of silver and has survived in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its mid nineteenth century craftsmanship. The obverse of the quarter displays a graceful depiction of Lady Liberty, envisioned by designer Christian Gobrecht. She is shown seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield. The date 1858 is clearly inscribed beneath her feet. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted with wings spread, clutching a branch and three arrows in its talons, with a shield positioned over its chest. This side of the coin also features the abbreviated denomination QUAR. DOL. alongside the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
