The year 1858 brought a beautiful silver quarter to American commerce, showcasing the artistry of Christian Gobrecht. Struck from 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.1788 troy ounces, this twenty-five cent piece represents a classic era of United States coinage. This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, allowing its detailed engravings to remain remarkably clear. On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is depicted sitting upon a rock, looking toward the left. In her hand, she holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars, representing the original colonies that formed the nation. The reverse of the coin features a powerful eagle facing left with a shield positioned over its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch and three arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense.
