Struck in the year 1860, this United States quarter dollar offers a window into mid nineteenth century American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the Liberty Seated design series, which was a staple of silver currency during this era. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its original engraving. The obverse features a representation of Liberty in a seated position. She holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Surrounding her figure are thirteen stars, representing the original colonies that formed the nation. The date 1860 is clearly inscribed beneath her feet. On the reverse, the design showcases an eagle with its wings spread, clutching an olive branch and a trio of arrows in its talons. The legend surrounding the eagle reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, while the denomination is abbreviated at the bottom as QUAR. DOL. This Philadelphia Mint issue carries no mint mark, which was the standard practice for the facility during this period.
