1860 Liberty Seated Quarter Fine
Dating back to the era before 1863, this 1860 United States quarter dollar is struck in 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular specimen survives in circulated Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that passed through many hands during a pivotal moment in American history. The obverse features Christian Gobrecht's depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown seated and facing to the left, holding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap. Thirteen stars encircle her, representing the original colonies, with the year 1860 inscribed at the bottom. On the reverse, an eagle faces left with a shield positioned over its chest. The bird holds an olive branch of peace in one talon and three arrows of strength in the other. The inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" along the top rim and "QUAR. DOL." along the bottom, marking its twenty-five cent denomination.
