1860 Liberty Seated Quarter XF

0.1788 troy oz .900 1860 Extra Fine

Struck in the year 1860, this United States quarter dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Surviving in Extra Fine condition, it showcases the detailed artistry of the period with remarkable clarity. The obverse features the celebrated design by Christian Gobrecht, depicting Lady Liberty seated and looking toward the left. She holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, surrounded by thirteen stars along the upper rim to represent the original colonies. The year 1860 is clearly inscribed at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle faces left with a shield draped across its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch alongside three arrows, symbolizing both peace and defense. The inscriptions on this side include the denomination abbreviated as QUAR. DOL., identifying its twenty-five cent face value.
