1860-O Liberty Seated Dollar AU-55 PCGS

0.7734 troy oz .900 1860 Almost Unc - 55 (PCGS)

Struck on the eve of the American Civil War, this 1860 silver dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Produced at the southern branch mint in New Orleans, Louisiana, the coin bears the distinctive 'O' mint mark on its reverse. With a total mintage of 515,000 pieces, finding an example that survived in such a well-preserved state offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The obverse features the iconic Liberty Seated design, where Lady Liberty is depicted resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap, and supporting a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below her sits the date 1860. The reverse displays an eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOL. This particular coin has been certified in About Uncirculated 55 condition, retaining much of its original detail and luster after more than a century and a half.
