1861 Liberty Seated Half Dollar XF

Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this half dollar from 1861 represents a classic era of American coinage. The coin contains 0.3868 troy ounces of precious metal and displays the distinctive artistry of the mid nineteenth century, preserved in Extra Fine condition. The obverse features a graceful depiction of Liberty seated on a rock. In one hand, she holds a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below this central figure, the date 1861 is clearly visible. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest. The bird grips an olive branch and three arrows in its talons, symbolizing both peace and defense. The denomination is indicated at the bottom of the design as HALF DOL.
