1862 Liberty Seated Half Dime MS-64 NGC

In the midst of the American Civil War, the Philadelphia Mint produced this silver half dime in 1862. Striking a total of 1,492,000 pieces, the facility left no mint mark on these small silver coins, which were composed of 90.1 percent silver. Each coin contains approximately 0.0358 troy ounces of precious metal, representing a tiny but vital denomination in the daily commerce of the era. This particular specimen has survived the generations in exceptional condition, earning a high grade of Mint State 64 (MS-65). The reverse of the coin clearly displays the denomination spelled out as HALF DIME, framed by a delicate wreath. The obverse features the classic Liberty Seated design, making it a fascinating survivor from a pivotal moment in American history.
