1867-S Liberty Seated Half Dime XF

0.0358 troy oz .900 1867 Extra Fine

The 1867 half dime from the San Francisco Mint represents a fascinating chapter in United States coinage, carrying a face value of five cents and struck in 90 percent silver. Containing 0.0358 troy ounces of precious metal, this diminutive coin showcases the intricate craftsmanship of the era, preserved in an Extra Fine state of preservation. Created by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse design presents Liberty seated upon a rock. In her right hand, she supports a shield, while her left hand holds a staff topped with a liberty cap. The date 1867 is clearly visible beneath this iconic figure, surrounded by the stars of the union. The reverse of the coin is dedicated to the denomination, with the words HALF DIME enclosed by a detailed wreath. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arches around the outer edge, and the small S mint mark below the wreath identifies its origin at the San Francisco facility.
