Struck in 1869 at the Philadelphia Mint, this silver half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Containing 0.3599 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver, the coin showcases a design by Christian Gobrecht that circulated widely during the nineteenth century. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the distinct details of its historic imagery. The obverse features Lady Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The date 1869 is positioned clearly beneath her feet. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted with wings spread, holding three arrows and an olive branch in its talons. A shield is emblazoned across the bird's chest, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOL.
