1871 Liberty Seated Half Dime VF

In the nineteenth century, the United States minted a tiny silver five-cent piece known as the half dime. This 1871 issue, preserved in Very Fine condition, showcases the artistry of Christian Gobrecht. It is struck in 90 percent silver, containing 0.0387 troy ounces of the precious metal. The obverse features a graceful depiction of Liberty seated. She holds a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield, symbolizing protection and freedom. The year 1871 is struck clearly below the figure. On the reverse, a detailed wreath encircles the central denomination. The words HALF DIME are nestled within this foliage, presenting a delicate and classic American design from the era preceding 1933.
