0.3599 troy oz .900 1872 Almost Unc

The 1872 silver half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, showcasing the Liberty Seated motif that dominated the silver denominations of the nineteenth century. Struck in 90% fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3599 troy ounces of precious metal. The coin survives today in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its mid-Victorian era artistry. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand supports a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The base of the design is anchored by the year 1872. This iconic representation of freedom was created by Christian Gobrecht. The reverse side displays a powerful eagle perched upon an olive branch, grasping three arrows in its talons. A shield is positioned across the eagle's chest, mirroring the theme of national defense seen on the obverse. The lower rim of the reverse features the denomination, abbreviated as HALF DOL.
