1873-CC Liberty Seated Half Dollar G-04 PCGS (Arrows)

0.3617 troy oz .900 1873 Good - 4 (PCGS)

In 1873, the Carson City Mint struck a distinctive variation of the Liberty Seated half dollar, easily identified by the small arrows placed on either side of the date. This silver coin, composed of 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.3866 troy ounces, represents a fascinating moment in United States coinage history. With a total mintage of just 214,560 pieces, this issue is highly prized by those who study the output of the famous Nevada mint. The obverse design, created by Christian Gobrecht, features Liberty seated on a rock. In her left hand, she holds a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her right hand rests upon a shield. The year 1873 is flanked by the two arrows at the bottom. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest, clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. The legendary "CC" mint mark is positioned below the eagle, just above the denomination. Surrounding the reverse design are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOL." This specific coin has been certified in Good 4 condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation. The visible details of the seated figure and the reverse eagle tell a story of a coin that actively passed through hands during the American frontier era.
