The year 1873 brought a distinctive visual update to the United States quarter. This silver piece, composed of 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces, features small arrows flanking the date on the lower obverse. This design element frames the year 1873, creating a highly recognizable variety within the classic Liberty Seated series. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted sitting and facing to her left. In her hand, she holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Thirteen stars arch over her, representing the original colonies. The reverse showcases an eagle facing left, holding an olive branch of peace in one talon and a cluster of three arrows in the other. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, abbreviated as QUAR. DOL. This particular coin survives in Very Fine condition, showing pleasing detail from its time in circulation.
