In 1875, the Carson City Mint produced a run of 1,008,000 silver half dollars, each containing 0.3575 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. This particular coin survives in Very Fine condition, showcasing the distinct artistry of designer Christian Gobrecht. The design captures a specific era of American silver coinage, minted in the historic Nevada facility during the late nineteenth century. The obverse features Liberty in a seated position, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield. Below her figure is the date 1875. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest, gripping a branch and three arrows in its talons. The reverse inscriptions include the country name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value, abbreviated as HALF DOL.
