1875 Liberty Seated Half Dollar Good

0.3868 troy oz .900 1875 Good

Struck in the post-Civil War era, this 1875 half dollar represents a classic chapter in United States coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin carries no mint mark, distinguishing it from those struck at branch facilities. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.3866 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse showcases the iconic Liberty Seated design created by Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is depicted resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand, while her other hand supports a shield. The year 1875 is clearly visible beneath this central figure. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is displayed with a shield across its chest, gripping three arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The surrounding inscription reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOL., framing the eagle and completing this historic mid-nineteenth-century design.
