1875 Liberty Seated Half Dollar VG

In 1875, the Philadelphia Mint produced a silver half dollar that showcases one of the most enduring design eras in United States coinage. This fifty-cent piece, struck with a silver purity of 90 percent, contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was minted at the main facility in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark. The obverse of the coin features the classic Liberty Seated motif, a creation of Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is shown resting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand supports a shield. The year 1875 is clearly inscribed beneath this central figure. On the reverse, a detailed eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest, clutching three arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOL. encircle the patriotic bird, framing a design that represents the artistic sensibilities of pre-1933 American money.
