The year 1876 marked a significant period in American history, and this silver quarter dollar from the Carson City Mint captures the essence of that era. Struck with a purity of 90 percent silver, this piece belongs to the long-running Liberty Seated series, which spanned the years before, during, and after the American Civil War. This particular issue carries the distinctive 'CC' mint mark, identifying its origin at the famous Nevada facility. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse of the coin presents Lady Liberty resting on a rock. She faces toward the left, grasping a staff topped by a Phrygian cap, with thirteen stars arching above her to represent the original colonies. The year 1876 is anchored at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted facing left with a shield positioned over its chest. In its talons, the bird holds an olive branch alongside a trio of arrows, symbolizing both peace and defense. This specimen is preserved in Very Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a circulated coin that survived a fascinating chapter of the nineteenth century.
