1876 Liberty Seated Half Dollar AG

0.3866 troy oz .900 1876 Almost Good

In the centennial year of 1876, the Philadelphia Mint produced over five million silver half dollars. This particular coin, composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3866 troy ounces, carries the marks of its long journey through commerce. Classified in Almost Good condition, the piece shows significant wear, and the outer rim may exhibit areas of weakness, yet the core elements of its historic design remain visible. Created by designer Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features Liberty in a seated position. She holds a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while resting her other hand on a shield. The year 1876 is anchored at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted with a shield across its chest, gripping three arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOL.
