1876 Liberty Seated Quarter AU

Struck in 1876, this ninety percent silver quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Produced at the Philadelphia mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which distinguishes it from those struck at branch mints during the same period. It contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of silver, serving as a tangible survivor of late nineteenth-century commerce. The obverse displays a seated figure of Liberty, positioned on a rock and looking toward the left. In her hand, she supports a staff crowned with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Surrounding her are thirteen stars, representing the original colonies. The year 1876 is clearly inscribed at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, an eagle faces left, grasping an olive branch of peace alongside three arrows of strength. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination, shortened to QUAR. DOL. This particular piece has survived in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details of Christian Gobrecht's historic design.
