The 1876 Liberty Seated quarter dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint during the nation's centennial year, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which was the standard practice for the facility at the time. This issue belongs to a long-running series that spanned the turbulent decades before, during, and after the American Civil War. On the obverse, the design features Liberty seated and looking toward the left. She holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield. Thirteen stars encircle this central figure, representing the original colonies, with the year 1876 inscribed below. The reverse displays an eagle facing left with a shield draped across its chest, clutching an olive branch and a trio of arrows in its talons. The inscriptions reading "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUAR. DOL." frame this patriotic scene. This particular coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived in a circulated, Very Good condition, it carries the physical wear of a piece that actively passed through the hands of Americans during the late nineteenth century.
