This silver quarter from 1876 offers a window into the late nineteenth century, representing a classic era of American coinage. Minted at the Philadelphia facility, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which distinguishes it from those produced at branch mints. The piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. On the obverse side, the figure of Liberty is shown seated and facing to her right. She holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, while her other hand rests upon a shield. Thirteen stars encircle this central figure, symbolizing the original colonies. The reverse features an eagle with its wings spread, bearing a shield on its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a trio of arrows, representing peace and readiness.
